Gratitude for the First Sparks of Iron County
As we reflect on gratitude this season, our hearts turn to the early settlers of Iron County—men, women, and families whose courage, grit, and craftsmanship shaped the place we now call home.
Cedar City was built by people who forged their lives—quite literally—out of determination and vision. In the 1850s, Iron County became a center for iron production for the Utah Territory. Blacksmiths, ironworkers, and pioneers built furnaces, forges, and foundries that became the heartbeat of this community. Their work required fire, strength, resilience, and creativity.
A forge is a place where raw materials are shaped and transformed by heat, pressure, and skill.
It’s where something ordinary becomes something extraordinary.
It’s where sparks turn into tools, structures, progress—and legacy.
Today, The Forge Center for the Arts honors that heritage. Just as our founders heated iron and shaped it into something strong and useful, we work to shape community through creativity, connection, and the shared experience of the arts. The same pioneering spirit lives on in every rehearsal, every performance, every moment of collaboration.
This Thanksgiving season, we are grateful for the people who built Iron County with their hands and hearts—and for the opportunity to carry forward that legacy of creating, shaping, and building something meaningful.
Here’s to the settlers who sparked a community.
And here’s to the creative fire that continues to shine in Cedar City.
Join us as we celebrate that spirit during Christmas at The Forge, featuring two brand-new original holiday productions:
Santa Claus Is Coming to Town
The Star Still Shines
